Lent is a season of reflection and preparation for the glory of the Easter season. It is a 40 day season that reminds us of Jesus' 40 days in the wilderness. In this season, we are reminded to rend our hearts, fast, pray, and join with Jesus as he journies to the cross.

We will have many opportunities this Lenten season to gather:

  • Ash Wednesday Service-February 18 @ 6:00 at Buxton UMC
  • Confirmation Classes begin February 22 @ 5:00-6:30 at Hatteras UMC
  • Lenten Bible Study following The Last Supper by Will Willimon begins February 23 @ 2:00 at Little Grove UMC or February 24 @ 6:00 at Tavern on 12
  • Community Lenten Lunch Series begins February 25 @ 12:00 at Buxton UMC

Our Lenten Sermon Series is entitled Holy Vessels: A Lenten Season of Recovery. In this series we will be reminded that each of us is created as a precious and holy vessel of embodied love. In this Lenten "season of recovery" we will explore the healing narratives of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew that remind us that we can begin a journey towards making something beautiful from what may seem broken. In this "season of recovery," we will explore healing for our body, mind, and spirit through these narratives of Jesus' solidarity with human suffering that reflect our need for healing physically, communally, mentally, intellectually, and environmentally.

We hope you are able to join us during this Holy Season!
